Who’s Watching You?

I’ve been watching Kathie Lee Gifford for many years, including when she worked with Regis Philbin.

She is loved, liked and respected by many! She has been given many compliments and accolades, saying “we will miss you” this week, as she is leaving the Today Show!

I admire how she is unafraid to share her faith with those she knows personally and also those who watch her on television. I believe that this boldness and authenticity has allowed her the opportunity to be such a great influence on many people.

There are four types of influences in our lives:

Positive and life-changing influences are really the kind that we should all strive to model!

  • Negative
  • Neutral
  • Positive
  • Life- changing

“You will never influence the world by trying to be like it.”

How can we influence without boldness? Acting the same as everyone else doesn’t demonstrate that we are different and therefore able to make an impression and influence others. It is in our boldness to act differently and our willingness to exercize that boldness to speak the truth, that we can influence those who are watching us!

Paul wrote in Philippians:

”And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.”

Philippians 1:14

Those who knew Paul while he was in prison, became more confident to share the gospel without fear. He impacted and influenced their life!

He can still influence us today when we learn from him and his life and who he represented- Jesus

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

As well as being bold, we must also establish trust! Trust that people who follow us will believe what they see in how we live and what we say.

BECOMING A GOOD INFLUENCE
“You never know who’s watching you. And someone always is, whether your child, your sibling, your spouse, your friend, or a stranger in another car on the road. Emotions and inner life states are transmitted like viruses via our words and actions, even from the quietest and smallest. Nothing can encourage us like someone else’s good example. They’re frankly few and far between—but they’re there if you look for them. Want to create value with your life? Become a good influence.
Stop and think. What better service can you provide someone else than being a good example to them? Not with conscious intention, which always seems contrived and has little power to encourage, but by simply (oh, ironic word) becoming the examples you yourself want to see. As I wrote in a previous post, How To Communicate With Your Life, when you’ve actually become something, others see it in almost everything you do.”

Psychology Today

I’m striving to impact and influence others in my writing and those who know me personally. I can’t say that I always do what everyone thinks is ” right” but I look to God and the accountability of others to be a godly influence.
