How Is Your Faith?

Today is known as Good Friday. I see it as Good in the fact that Jesus went to the cross to cover my sin and the sin of the whole world and we can have salvation when we believe. Very difficult circumstances happened that day for Jesus, though. Pilate didn’t see any reason for Him to be crucified but the Jews started yelling and mocked Him. It didn’t just start with Pilate around though. They wanted an answer whether Jesus was going to admit that He was the Son of God, the king of the Jews. Jesus remained silent though. Eventually, Pilate gave them their way and allowed them to crucify Jesus.

They asked:

  • “Is the veil going to be torn and you are going to raise it in three days?”
  • “If you are Christ, why don’t you just come off the cross and save yourself?”
  • “He saved others, why can’t He save Himself?”

Those who crucified Him, kept throwing insults at Him. Then something interesting happened! The veil was torn and the rocks started shaking! All of a sudden, they realized that what He said was true! They said,” Truly, He must be the Son of God.”

They didn’t just believe, something physical happened in order for them to see, then believe.

Two criminals hung next to Him.

One said, “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

The other said, “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? “We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” (Luke 23:38-41)

The one said If you are, the other said ” Don”t you fear God?” So we can tell by this statement that the second criminal Did believe that Jesus truly was God. Jesus then answered him “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

We tend to negotiate with God, it’s a “if, then ” situation. I understand, I’ve done it before also.

Instead of negotiating, we can just go ahead and believe. We can trust Him for who He really is. We don’t have to wait for the evidence to show up like on that day where the veil was torn and the rocks shook, then they believed. It’s hard to have faith sometimes, in fact often, as humans.

“We Believe”, a song by the group, Newsboys, states:

Let our faith be more than anthems,

Greater than the songs we sing,

And in our weakness and temptations.

We believe, We believe.

Don’t wait to believe, and then only under certain conditions. Don’t let it only be part of your yearly tradition to go to church, (it’s still great to go) but really believe that He is our strong God that conquered death then, and He conquers in difficult situations now and will conquer evil in the end. Let our faith be a part of our daily life, and believe that He is strong. When we believe Him, we then have “divine power to demolish strongholds.”

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:4

Some of us have doubts regarding where our country is heading. We are concerned about our safety at the border, what our leaders represent and what is best for our economic policies. We are concerned about our family, our friends, everything representing our future. Believe Him, love one another and Be the church that God intended to show a very lost world, who He is.

Let the lost be found and the dead be raised

In the here and now, let love invade.

Let the church live love our God will see.

We believe, we believe

And the gates of hell will not prevail

For the power of God, has torn the veil

Now we know Your love will never fail

We believe, we believe
