This last weekend, May 4th 2019, Focus on the Family, went to New York City, specifically to Times Square, to display on the large screens, a live, 4D Ultrasound of a baby! They called this “ Alive from New York”. Focus on the Family received resistance and they were told “No”, they could not put their message and pictures on live screens already used in Times Square. They asked many people to write, call and ask for this to still be shown. They did not receive the results they expected, so they set up their own screens and the event happened anyways. On Sunday though, I saw that an Unplanned advertisement was on a regular Times Square screen. They also showed and let everyone listen to a current, live heartbeat of Abby Johnson’s baby currently in her womb. Abby is the woman who wrote the true story of Unplanned, the movie in theatres. Recently, Governor Cuomo passed in New York, the RHA bill that allows a woman the ability to have an abortion all the way up to the birth of the baby!
Many don’t believe that this is truly a baby. Why not, I wonder? With technology so advanced, we can clearly see human life inside the womb! Why is this not considered life? A recent story I read demonstrates to me what and why, are the circumstances considered human life. A teenage mother in Texas had a baby that she then stabbed 9 times then the mother went to sleep. Discussions are happening about what the consequences should be for this teenage mom. I find this to be horrific that anyone do such a cruel thing to a newborn baby, but what is now allowed in New York? A baby, brand new, alive, is taken out and killed! Why is the one situation (abortion) considered acceptable, but a brand new baby killed, not acceptable? They both are not acceptable! According to the morality and standards accepted today, what is right is determined by what is convenient and what I want! Why is what is best for the life of another human not considered and cared about? Alabama representative John Rogers recently and brashly justified killing babies saying:

I went to Times Square several months ago and saw all the screens. How amazing, so many bright lights and advertisements! With abortion so acceptable now, I know that Focus on the Family cares both for human life inside and outside of the womb! There is no doubt in my mind that this baby is a human being, is alive and watching the Unplanned movie and hearing about so many women severely regretting the abortions they have had. Focus on the Family cares for the baby and the mother! They care for the Family! I find giving wrong information very sad, making an effort to harden girls and women’s hearts concerning the babies they are expecting , very wrong too!
So what was the response from Planned Parenthood?
Planned Parenthood, on Twitter, is angry and calling Focus on the Family, a “hate group!”
Seriously? Trying to save life is considered hate now? Or is the real hate from the organization that convinces girls to kill their babies in the interest of convenience and the organizations own profit?
Focus on the Family, as a non-profit organization, does not have anything to gain or to lose in sharing with women, the need to spare human life and care for their own hearts as well. Planned Parenthood, on the other hand, stands to lose government funding as well as funds from all the women coming in to receive an abortion and from the sale of “baby parts”. The story of Unplanned, is a true story written by Abby Johnson, who has personal experience of having abortions herself, then working in an abortion clinic also, eventually promoted to a director level. She specifically calls out how the cost of an abortion is determined( by the size of a baby’s head). She also explains how women are deceived by the purpose of Planned Parenthood, how Planned Parenthood grows and is funded as well as being told that there is nothing to fear in getting an abortion.
I also read an abortion case where a mother was going into a clinic for her ninth abortion! I could hardly believe Nine!!! Why did she not use prevention? The story stated that she would laugh every time she went in, during the whole process including getting signed in, to being in the room where the abortion took place. At one point though, she sees the tissue and realizes that this was a human, this was hers and began screaming uncontrollably! Someone with this hard of a heart, to have their ninth abortion, left her completely devastated! Why is it that women are deceived into thinking that “ it will all be ok?”
In the movie Unplanned, Abby kept moving to another level of the clinic, the harder and more calloused she became to abortion. She started at the clinic as a volunteer, then became a counselor, finally a director. It was when she was called in to assist with an abortion, seeing what really happened with a baby’s limbs torn as the baby struggled while being dismembered in the womb, that she ran into another room crying and left her job soon after this. She could not continue supporting this! Yesterday, listening to the national news, I heard of people complaining because an ultrasound was “scary”! What I consider scary is hearing of a baby’s limbs torn and the baby killed because the baby is an inconvenience! I understand that having a baby can be at an unplanned, unexpected time, but there are many people wanting baby’s! I was born while my mom was still very young and she chose to keep me when others suggested abortion.
Deuteronomy 30:15-20 states
See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

I find it also interesting that the doctor who performed the abortions in the movie, who was a doctor in real life, doing this, had adopted a baby and this baby died. This devastated him so much, when he realized what he was doing, he had to stop performing abortions. Many have had to leave this line of work when they realize what they are doing and supporting.
Is it really appropriate to call this “hate” or is this love? Love for the child, Love for the mother who will deal with consequences down the line, love or hate for those involved medically assisting or counseling these women? I believe we need to consider these issues and risks!
If you have had an abortion, you can experience God’s grace and forgiveness. If you are considering abortion, please get some help through a pregnancy counseling center where you can see an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat of your baby. It is not an easy decision, but please make an informed decision as abortion clinics do not allow you to see an ultrasound.
