God blessed me with several Father’s in my life. My first Father, here from beginning through eternity is my Father, God, Gordon Hughes is my natural father, George Nicholson adopted me, Tom Duncan(Father in law), and my husband-Daniel Duncan is the father to our 3 daughters.
I see that Fathers play a very important role in providing sacrificially not only for my physical needs, but spiritual needs, support and guidance. We go to them and depend them in different ways throughout our lives.
When we are very young, they provide physical needs of food, clothing, shelter. They also provide love, support and guidance. They cheer for us when we do well but provide instruction when we need help doing what is right.
As we grow up, especially in our teens, some of this dependence changes but we really need alert fathers to watch and guide us and spend quality time with us. We need support and encouragement also.
When we leave home, we don’t need as many physical needs cared for as we learn and mature. We start caring for some of these needs on our own. We do need though to continue receiving guidance and support through our life. We don’t always do as our father’s suggest. We make our own decisions. Our father’s normally want to be there for us when we do well and when we fall. I encourage all of you today to honor our fathers, to respect and appreciate them for who they are to us in the role they play throughout our lives. For those who are reading this today and are fathers or are about to be fathers, I encourage you to pray for your children, provide, guidance and support your children at every point in their life. I also pray that you will work together with your wives or mother of your children, to raise them faithfully, in the ” nurture and admonition of the Lord.” as Ephesians 6:4 says.
Our church has a special tradition for Father’s Day each year, where we have a Bacon Bar. It’s all things Bacon since this is something so many men (and women) enjoy!
I have made for the past 2 years a Sweet and Spicy candied bacon that many people enjoy and ask for the recipe! I’m going to give you the recipe today! I hope you all have a great day, enjoying all the Fathers in your life! Please make sure that you tell them how much you appreciate all that they do! God bless all of you today!
Sweet and Spicy Bacon
Sweet and Spicy Candy Bacon recipe- conversions
For 2 packages of thick bacon. I used Brown Sugar bacon.
Mix in a Bowl:
24 Tbsp (1.5 Cups)Maple syrup
48 Tbsp (3 Cups)Brown Sugar
24 tsp(1/2 Cup)whole grain mustard
12 tsp (1/4 Cup)coarsely ground pepper
3 tsp chili powder
Heat oven to 350 degrees
Line cookie sheets( ideally 2) with foil, put on top of foil, a cooling rack
Slice each bacon piece in half, then dip in the liquid mixture covering each side, then lay across the cooling rack and place in the oven. Bake for 15 minutes then flip, cook for another 10 minutes, take out and flip and bake for another 10 minutes. If it looks as fully cooked as you want, you can take it out. If you want it darker, cook it for longer.
Let it cool and enjoy! You will probably have to do several cookie sheets full to make this much. You can always cut the recipe in half too
