Week 9 Wisdom Quotes by Spiritual Women

The two women that I featured today in Wisdom Quotes by Spiritual Women, are some of my favorites! Corrie ten Boom and Elisabeth Elliot, are these women.

Corrie ten Boom lived in the Netherlands. Her family hid Jews during the Holocaust, in the watch shop that they owned. After the Nazi’s found the Jews and saw what her family did, they were sent to a concentration camp. They endured a lot of difficult circumstances, but they were also an incredible witness, still believing in God’s strength and faithfulness to get through such trying times. She wrote so many quotes that give us all strength and wisdom. I saw in Washington D.C. last year, at The Museum of the Bible, a special tribute and a display for Corrie ten Boom. The movie, The Hiding Place, also is amazing to watch about her story. I encourage you to watch it!

Elisabeth Elliot and her husband, Jim, were missionaries in Ecuador. Jim was later killed by the very Indians that they went to Ecuador to reach with the gospel. She wrote many books such as Through Gates of Splendor and Passion and Purity. Her quotes also demonstrate great wisdom.

Corrie ten Boom

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.

Corrie ten Boom

The measure of a life, after all, is not its duration, but its donation.

Corrie ten Boom

Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden.

Corrie ten Boom

Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees.

Corrie ten Boom

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

Corrie ten Boom

Elisabeth Elliot

Failure means nothing now, only that it taught me life.

Elisabeth Elliot

God never denies us our hearts desire except to give us something better.

Elisabeth Elliot

The fact that I’m a woman doesn’t make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I’m a Christian does make me a different kind of woman.

Elisabeth Elliot

If we really have too much to do, there are some items on the agenda which God did not put there. Let us submit the list to Him and ask Him to indicate which items we must delete. There is always time to do the will of God. If we are too busy to do that, we are too busy.

Elisabeth Elliot

Today is mine. Tomorrow is none of my business. If I peer anxiously into the fog of the future, I will strain my spiritual eyes so that I will not see clearly what is required of me now.

Elisabeth Elliot

Bonus Wisdom Quote by Spiritual Women:

Faith does not eliminate questions. But faith knows where to take them.

So many people today really question their faith or question another person’s faith. They don’t know the answer or even when told where to find the answers that they look for, do not go seek for themselves. They also do not ask those who could help them find the answers to their questions. I think many of us still have questions, but we know to go to the Word of God, the Bible, to find them. We can also ask a pastor or another mature believer in the faith. Take any of your questions about your faith today, where you can find an answer!

  1. I have read “The Hiding Place.” You never forget the things she went through. I love the first quote about worry. It is so true. I don’t know the other lady but she used my quote in her own words, that the Lord never takes anything away without giving you something better. And I remembered that He spoke that to me when I was complaining. He is too good.

  2. Two of my favorite women of God too! I have had the incredible honor to be present to hear them speak and shake hands with each of them. True and worthy role models, both!

      1. Heaven is going to be AMAZING! I picture myself a star struck little fan girl just looking around incredulously at all the heroes of the faith and just awestruck at the reality of eternity to get to know them!!! Enter Jesus Himself!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ On streets of gold, no less! Wow! Cannot wait!

  3. Both women have been examples to follow and their books, Tramp for the Lord, The Hiding Place, Shadow of the Almighty, Through Gates of Splendor have been blessings.
Recently picked up and read Becoming Elisabeth Elliot by Ellen Vaughn, and delighted in learning more about this amazing woman and her correspondence and marriage to Jim Elliot.
