Today’s Wise Quotes Are From Francis Schaeffer and C.S.Lewis
Many authors have inspired us along the way. However authors like Francis Schaeffer and C.S.Lewis really encouraged us to think critically and evaluate life and their worldview, when they wrote. I hope that these quotes are meaningful to you, and you really consider the message that they carry. They are very relevant to our culture right now. Here are more wise quotes by Spiritual men! Please let me know, which quote(s) you like best and how you see them applying in your life and in the world right now!
Francis Schaeffer was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was an author, theologian, philosopher and pastor. Francis and his wife Edith co-founded the L’abri community in Switzerland. In addition to the L’abri ministry and other books he wrote, one of his most well-known books is “How Should We Then Live?”
C.S. Lewis (Clive Staples Lewis) was a British writer and theologian. As an author, Lewis wrote these popular books- The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe, Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Four Loves, The Problem of Pain and A Grief Observed as well as other works. He held positions at Oxford and Cambridge University. It is interesting to me, that Lewis rejected Christianity in his teens, then turned to Atheism throughout his 20’s. As a result of his close Roman Catholic friend J.R.R. Tolkien, he then turned to Christianity. His life was now changed when Lewis recognized who God is. He began to write as a result of his new found faith.
Francis Schaeffer
In John 13, the point was that, if an individual Christian does not show love toward other true Christians, the world has a right to judge that he is not a Christian. Here(in John 17:21) Jesus is stating something else which is more cutting, much m,ore profound: We cannot expect the world to believe the Father sent the Son, that Jesus’ claims are true, and that Christianity is true, unless the world sees some reality of the oneness of true Christians.
Francis Schaeffer
Here is the great evangelical disaster- the failure of the evangelical world to stand for truth as truth. There is only one word for this-namely accommodation. The evangelical church has accommodated to the world spirit of the age. First, there has been accommodation on Scripture, so that many who call themselves evangelicals hold a weakened view of the Bible and no longer afford the truth of all the Bible teaches-truth not only in religious matters but in areas of science and history and morality…This accommodation has been costly, first in destroying the power of the Scriptures to confront the spirit of our age; second, in allowing the further slide of our culture. Thus we must say with tears that it is the evangelical accommodation to the world spirit around us, to the wisdom of this age, which removes the evangelical church from standing against the breakdown of our culture.
Francis Schaeffer
Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world.

Winning The Battle For Spiritual Truths
We as Bible-believing evangelical Christians are locked in a battle. This is not a friendly gentleman’s discussion. It is a life and death conflict between the spiritual hosts of wickedness and those who claim the name of Christ…But do we really believe that we are in a life and death battle? Do we really believe that the part we play in the battle has consequences for whether or not men and women will spend eternity in hell? or whether or not those who do live will live in a climate or moral perversion and degradation? Sadly, we must say that very few in the evangelical world have acted as if these things are true….Where is the clear voice speaking to the crucial issues of the day with distinctively Biblical, Christian answers? With tears, we must say it is not there and that a large segment of the evangelical world has become seduced by the world spirit of this present age. And more than this, we can expect the future to be a further disaster if the evangelical world does not take a stand for Biblical truth and morality in the full spectrum of life.

State officials must know that we are serious about stopping abortion, which is a matter of clear principle concerning babies themselves and a high view of human life.
Francis Schaeffer
C.S. Lewis
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
C.S.Lewis
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.
C.S.Lewis
To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.
C.S.Lewis
I didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.
C.S.Lewis
True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.
C.S.Lewis
I must say I love CS Lewis and probably most things he ever said. He painted works of art with his words that I would hang around my walls. The one of Francis I most resonate with is – Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this post!
Youβre welcome!
Picking a ‘favorite quote’ from two of my favorite authors is like asking me to choose between butterscotch, caramel, almonds or Brazil nuts. This is as impossible as it is enjoyable to consider them all! π
Iβm so so glad!!! They are both great and wrote with boldness!
