Let’s Look At Proverbs 27 Today In A Month Of Wisdom

Let’s look at Proverbs 27 now. We will see some verses that describe how great a blessing that a friend is. I really hope that you have gained a lot from this study. Several of you have commented and I am SO thankful that this study in Proverbs, has been a great help! Thank you for your comments and support!

Qualities Of A Good Friend

A real friend can be trusted! Even though you may have days where you feel hurt by something your friend says or does, count on them more still than a person that seems so kind, but they aren’t truly a friend. They are deceitful in the way that they treat you. On the outside, they may be kind, but they don’t have good intentions. They may be very shallow as a person. Their kindness is not real. I grew up moving quite a bit. It was very hard making and keeping friends. I look at who my real friends are now and what I value in a friend. It is someone who is real, someone who is authentic, not a fake person.

Verse 9 speaks of perfume and incense bringing joy to us, as well as a friend who is pleasant. This is someone who gives us heartfelt advice. They are real and they know what will help us. They are a joy to be around. Verse 10 seems a bit strange to me, but it depends on who your family and friends are. It helps when we have good friends who lovingly help us at a time of need. If we have “friends” who are not a good influence on us, they may be what we consider “friends”, but a real friend also does what verse 17 says: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” A real friend should influence us for our good, they should help us grow to be a better person, to be more godly.” You should each sharpen each other, not just one person doing all the work.

Verses Used To Describe A Good Friend

Verse 6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
    but an enemy multiplies kisses.

Verse 9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart,
and the pleasantness of a friend
    springs from their heartfelt advice.

Verse 10 Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family,
and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster strikes you—
better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away.

Verse 17 As iron sharpens iron,
    so one person sharpens another.

Know The Condition Of Your Belongings

Be accountable and know what you have! Pay attention to the condition of our belongings! Our possessions are temporary, not eternal.

Verses 23-27 Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. When the hay is removed and new growth appears
and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family and to nourish your female servants.

A Variety Of Motivating Verses

There are a lot of verses in this chapter. Many of them are random and don’t all belong to a specific theme, but I pulled out a few that really spoke to me and I hope that you can relate and that they help you as well.

Do not brag about what you are doing tomorrow, or your near future because we don’t know what our future will bring. Allow another person to praise you, not yourself. I love verse 12! Those who are prudent, see what danger they could get themselves into and they stay away from it, but the simple(or foolish) don’t pay attention. They keep moving in the direction of trouble and reap bad consequences. If a person is not sensitive to their neighbor or anyone close to them, early in the morning and is loud, this is considered a curse. When we look directly into water, we will see our face. The water reflects our face. Our life reflects the values of our heart! If we are kind, loving and live our life reflecting Christ, people will see this. However, if we live a crazy, worldly lifestyle where are values do not reflect godliness, people will see this as well. Question: What does your life reflect?

Verse 1 Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.

Verse 2 Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth;
an outsider, and not your own lips.

Verse 12 The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Verse 14 If anyone loudly blesses their neighbor early in the morning,
it will be taken as a curse.

Verse 19 As water reflects the face,
so one’s life reflects the heart.[a]

      1. Most religions are more of a problem and a hindrance but Jesus did create an organized group of followers 2000 years ago but, before long, it turned into something extremely corrupt

      2. There are a lot of corrupt people who claim to be Christians, but to really love and follow God is different then to just be part of a religious group that calls themselves “Christians,” I am a Christian, but I read the Bible, do my best to follow Christ and grow. To Love God and love people is what Christ said are the two greatest commandments.

      3. There are some nasty people in the world who claim to know Christ. The Bible says too, “By their fruit, you will know them.”Matthew 7:16-20. Jesus did call disciples(12 of them). Then He told them to go and make disciples. That is what true, born-again followers of Christ are called to do. I encourage you to read the Bible, search and learn. It is about faith and a real relationship with Christ, not a chosen religion. If you have an opportunity to watch the new series, download and watch it. It is called “The Chosen.” I highly recommend it.!
