Let’s Look At Proverbs 29 Today In A Month Of Wisdom

Let’s look at Proverbs 29 today! There are several themes again in this chapter. The themes are: The stubborn and undisciplined, the angry, the wise, the righteous, the wicked/evil, verses for parents, and verses for rulers. I hope that these verses speak to you today! Sometimes I find verses that really pertain to me, that I had no idea were actually in the Bible. It really is amazing how God knew what we needed many years ago and He speaks to us now!

For The Stubborn And Undisciplined

I like how verse 1 describes those who are stubborn. They are “stiff-necked and so they won’t move. There is no way to get them to change their mind. The verse says that after many rebukes, they will be suddenly destroyed and without remedy. The rest of the verses are also under the parents theme on today’s post. Our children need to be disciplined. They need to be corrected or they will grow up not behaving and living as they should. Also, they will not treat other people the correct way. I research what the word “insolent” means for verse 21. The definition is “rude, arrogant and a lack of respect.” So many kids do not behave these days. This verse describes them well. Many act entitled also. That characteristic is described well in this verse.

Verse 1Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes
 will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.
Verse 15A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,
 but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
Verse 17Discipline your children, and they will give you peace;
 they will bring you the delights you desire.
Verse 19Servants cannot be corrected by mere words;
 though they understand, they will not respond.
Verse 21A servant pampered from youth
will turn out to be insolent.

For The Angry

The angry are quick to act out their rage. Verse 11 says that they bring full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end. They stir up lots of conflict also!

Verse 9If a wise person goes to court with a fool,
the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.
Verse 10The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity
and seek to kill the upright.
Verse 11Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end.
Verse 20Do you see someone who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for them.
Verse 22An angry person stirs up conflict,
and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.

For The Wise

Last year, we saw on television, many who stirred up riots in several cities. They had many people angry, throwing rocks, starting fires and stealing as well as damaging buildings. Many other terrible things happened as well. Verse 8 states that “mockers stir up a city.” The wise however stop! They don’t get involved in angry riots. It is not wrong to protest about something we believe is wrong, but it is wrong to incite violence. Be passionate about wisdom!

Verse 3A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
Verse 8Mockers stir up a city,
but the wise turn away anger.
Verse 18Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint;
but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.

For The Righteous

“The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.” Righteousness thrives! Wicked people are angry however when they see righteousness. Sin thrives when the wicked thrive! This is the passion of the wicked. (Verse 16)

Verse 2When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan.
Verse 6Evildoers are snared by their own sin,
but the righteous shout for joy and are glad.
Verse 7The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern.
Verse 16When the wicked thrive, so does sin,
but the righteous will see their downfall.
Verse 23Pride brings a person low,
but the lowly in spirit gain honor.
Verse 25Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.
Verse 27The righteous detest the dishonest;
the wicked detest the upright.

For The Wicked/Evil

Those who live an evil lifestyle are snared(tricked, deceived) by their own sin. “The righteous shout for joy and are glad” Righteousness brings joy!

Verse 2When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan.
Verse 5Those who flatter their neighbors
 are spreading nets for their feet
Verse 6Evildoers are snared by their own sin,
 but the righteous shout for joy and are glad.
Verse 7The righteous care about justice for the poor,
 but the wicked have no such concern.
Verse 13The poor and the oppressor have this in common:
The Lord gives sight to the eyes of both.
Verse 16When the wicked thrive, so does sin,
 but the righteous will see their downfall.
Verse 24The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies;
 they are put under oath and dare not testify.
Verse 27The righteous detest the dishonest;
 he wicked detest the upright.

For The Parents

A few of these verses are listed in the first theme block of this post. It is great when our children bring us joy. We know that they listened to good wisdom. We have to teach them when they are young though. It hurts us when our kids don’t listen. There is no peace when we don’t see them living by what they were taught.

Verse 3A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
Verse 15A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,
but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
Verse 17Discipline your children, and they will give you peace;
 they will bring you the delights you desire.
Verse 21A servant pampered from youth
 will turn out to be insolent.

For The Rulers

“When the wicked rule, the people groan.” It is upsetting and we do groan when someone in authority is wicked. I would love to see stability. Verse 4 states that those who are greedy for bribes tear down a country, but by justice, we have stability. A ruler has to do what is right and fair. Our rulers need to listen to truth! This is huge! If they don’t,” their officials will become wicked,” according to verse 12.

Verse 2When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
 when the wicked rule, the people groan.
Verse 4By justice a king gives a country stability,
 but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down.
Verse 12If a ruler listens to lies,
 all his officials become wicked.
Verse 14If a king judges the poor with fairness,
his throne will be established forever.
Verse 26Many seek an audience with a ruler,
but it is from the Lord that one gets justice.
