Watch And Wait Patiently-He Is Coming

Watch and wait patiently-He is coming! Today’s passage is really applicable for me. My patience is wearing thin. Nerves are on edge. It is easy in a family especially, with those under the same roof to become frustrated with each other. James 5:7-8 reminds us a couple of times that the Lord’s coming is near and to be patient until the Lord’s coming. The day to day irritations are really minor in light of eternity. James reminds us of how a farmer waits for their crops to yield their fruit or vegetables. In order for this to happen though, the farmer has to go through rain. He has to go through the seasons just waiting until it is time.

Waiting Patiently As A Parent

It is hard to wait at times. As a parent, we get frustrated when we wait for our kids to pass through a phase in their life. Take for instance, sleeping through the night. We are so tired! Hopefully it won’t take long but we have to be patient until they learn. God, our Father patiently waits for us to learn.

Be Patient With Each Other

James tells us too, to not grumble against each other, as brothers and sisters in Christ. He even says that we will be judged and that the judge is waiting at the door! It is so easy to be grouchy and complain to and about each other when we are impatient with each other.

Job Worshiped And Lived Patiently

We have examples to look at. Job especially went through SO much and he still was patient and went through all of the situations that he was put through. On the last post I wrote, we see that Job even fell down in worship to God.

20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”

Job 1:20-21, NIV

The Lord gave Job even more than he first had, in the end.

Watch And Wait Patiently

It sure is hard to praise the Lord and worship Him when we are impatient. We have to take a step back and realize that the Lord will help us persevere through difficult times. I received a prayer request from my sister today. Her husband’s niece who is 14, has heart damage beyond repair. They will have to remove her from life support. I can’t even imagine going through this with one of my kids. It doesn’t make sense! The Lord will bring comfort and peace even during the tough times. Please pray for Andrew, my brother in law’s, family in this hard time.

The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, even when we don’t see this at first. Even when we don’t understand His purpose. This is why we wait and wait patiently. When we don’t see circumstances improve here on earth, we have the hope of having our Lord return, We need to keep this before us, to remind ourselves to watch and wait patiently-He is coming.

Key Passage

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.

James 5:7-12

Be Earnest While We Wait Patiently

Last of all, be earnest in what you say, the oaths, promises or commitments you make. Don’t go back on what you said. Say yes or no! This is something that I have a hard time with. I don’t like to say “no” sometimes. But I have to be firm and not passive aggressive.

An Example Of Waiting

In the movie Fireproof, Kirk Cameron, plays a firefighter(Caleb Holt) who is going through a very difficult time in his marriage. Caleb’s dad challenges him to do The Love Dare, a 40 day self-help study to keep Caleb and Catherine’s marriage from divorce. The song While I’m Waiting, is used in this movie. Listen to the words of this song and think about what you do while you are waiting to see God work in situations that you are in and just in life in general, until He comes again! “I will serve you while I’m waiting, I will worship while I am waiting.” This reminds me of Job, “I will worship while I’m waiting.” If you haven’t seen the movie Fireproof, I highly encourage you to watch it!

    1. Thank you for your prayers🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Unfortunately, she did pass away without them taking her off of life support. Her little body couldn’t make it any longer. Her whole family though, including all siblings, were able to be with her for the last few hours to sing for her and pray together! Thank you again so much for your prayers! They mean a lot! God bless you❤️

      1. I’m so sorry Becky.!! I can’t imagine that pain. Your lesson was very good. Wsiting to get through a season of life can be hard. We all have heard the saying that says you can look at a glass as either half full or half empty. I have a friend a couple heard younger than me that just lost her husband unexpectedly. She cried and is sad some, but she has been a picture of grace and dignity.

      2. Thank you for commenting and following me this year on my blog Lissa! I hope that you and Tim had a Merry Christmas! May God bless you in 2022

      3. I am so sorry. 14 is so young. I am sure they have been preparing themselves. Now they have to learn to live without her. I know how hard that is. I will keep them in my prayers. God bless you too!

  1. Great Post! I like what David said in Psalm about waiting: “Wait on the Lord, Be of good courage And He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the LORD!” (Psalm 27:14 NKJV) Blessings and Peace!
